This course describes in detail the anatomy of the human eye. Included in this course are the embryology and development of the eye, orbit and adnexae (external structures surrounding the eye), the extraocular muscles and nerves that supply them. The brows, eyelids, conjunctiva, lacrimal apparatus, anterior segment, refractive structures, and posterior segment, are discussed at length. The specialized tissues, aqueous, iris, ciliary body, vitreous, and retinal histology will be studied. The complex vascular and nerve supply to the eye and surrounding structures, visual pathways and cerebral visual cortex is described.

Describe and label the anatomic structures of the eye, and discuss the function of each structure as it relates to the visual process
Name the three coats of the eye
Describe the three segments of the eye
List the five layers of the cornea and the layers of the tear film
Summarize the aqueous flow from formation to outflow
Describe the uveal tract
Describe the layers of the crystalline lens
List the structures in the anterior chamber
List the structures in the posterior chamber
Describe the vitreous
List the layers of the retina
Discuss the optic nerve head
